profile photo of Dr Veronica PoulterDr Veronica Poulter is a senior lecturer in Teacher Education at Staffordshire University. Before moving into Higher Education in 2010, she enjoyed a varied career as a primary school teacher in schools across England. During that time, she co-founded the girls’ choir at Coventry Cathedral, and was a vocal coach for the national 'Sing Up' strategy. Veronica completed her doctorate at UCL Institute of Education in 2018, exploring generalist student teachers' experiences of the role of music in supporting children's phonological development in preparation for early reading. Being aware that music is often a subject which primary school teachers lack the confidence to teach, her thesis reported on a piece of action research in which she worked with groups of student teachers in early years classrooms, modelling and supporting the teaching of music with a focus on phonological awareness and language development.
