The training of singing leaders...

a consultation conference, Trinity College London (April 2007)

Guest Recital Robin Blitch Wiper, soprano and Mutsumi Moteki, piano. An event organised for the participants of the second psysiology and acoustics of the singing voice conference (Denver, Colorado) This conference has been instigated at the request of the DfES to look at the needs of singing leaders. It comes at a time when there is increased government support for singing, with £9 million allocated to singing in the coming year. The central question that the conference asks is:

If the government's aim is to 'get schools singing', what are the training needs of the leaders who will make this happen?

The conference organisers have invited a number of people to give short presentations to get each session started. The number of invitees has been kept deliberately small so that discussion amongst the whole group is practical, although there will also be opportunities for small group discussion.

This conference takes place against the background of the discussions that took place around the singing strand of the Music Manifesto Report No 2. We need to take that as the starting point and move forward, rather than spending time going over old ground.
